Congratulations to siblings Bayla and Judah Davis of Leicester, NC, the first two recipients of the Fletcher Bright Memorial Grant, a year-round opportunity to help fund bluegrass music camp scholarships, lessons, instruments and repair, and educational materials needed to help musicians age 21 and younger learn to play bluegrass music.

Bayla Davis attended the Bela Fleck Blue Ridge Banjo Camp and Judah Davis participated in the Bryan Sutton Blue Ridge Guitar Camp. Both camps were hosted by the Brevard Music Center in Brevard, NC.

There are seven siblings in the Davis family, and five of them play traditional bluegrass and old-time music in the Davis Family Band. Both Bayla and Judah are scholarship students at the Academy for the Arts in Asheville, NC, and Judah got his start on guitar at the Buncombe County JAM (Junior Appalachian Musician) program.

Judah (14) is pictured above with his guitar teacher, Bryan Sutton. Stay tuned next month for a photo of Bayla at camp.
