You may already be thinking about year-end giving and granting. This season provides an opportunity to reflect on what we have and how we can make a difference in our communities, and for many of us (including the staff and board of directors at the IBMA Foundation), that includes supporting the future of bluegrass music.
With 2024 right around the corner, here are a few handy suggestions and reminders:
Consider making a donation in honor of a friend or loved one—it’s a gift that’s always the right size!
On the IBMA Foundation website you can browse opportunities to sponsor and support projects that are critical to our work. Gifts of any size will be a meaningful show of support before the year ends! Sponsorship ideas, Levels of giving
You might consider a donation to one of our eight endowment funds at the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee. There’s a general fund supporting the IBMA Foundation, plus individual endowment funds for five college scholarships, the Arnold Shultz Fund, and the Fletcher Bright Memorial Fund for Young Musicians.
The IBMA Foundation is participating in a special, year-end fundraising collaboration with our sister organizations, the IBMA and the IBMA Trust Fund. To make a donation that will be split between all three of these non-profit organizations, go here.
You can enjoy a double tax benefit when you donate appreciated stock. You may claim a generous tax deduction for what the stock is worth today as opposed to what it originally cost you. You will also avoid paying capital gains tax on the transfer of the stock. This would not be the case should you decide to first sell the stock and then donate the proceeds. Stock gifts must be received by the IBMA Foundation’s Morgan Stanley investment account prior to 3 p.m. on December 30 to ensure they will be credited in 2023.
Notify us now of any gifts you’re sending from more complicated instruments such as stock, IRA distributions, electronic fund transfers, or donated musical instruments, as these require extra time and coordination.
Gifts mailed through USPS must have a visible postmark of no later than December 30, 2023, to be credited in 2023. Make all gifts payable to “IBMA Foundation,” with any special instructions on the memo line (e.g., “unrestricted donation,” “restricted for a particular scholarship or grant, etc.” “In memory of or in honor of a particular person”)
Gifts arriving via UPS or FedEx must be received at the IBMA Foundation office by 3 p.m. on December 29, 2023, to be credited in 2023. Make all gifts payable to “IBMA Foundation,” with any special instructions included in a note.
Online gifts can be made until 11:59 p.m. central time on New Year’s Eve and still be credited in 2023. Click here to make your year-end gifts online now.
