Bluegrass in the Schools Mini-Grant ($500) – April 25, 2025 presentation by The Bear Essentials band for 500 5th – 8th grade students at Summersville Middle School in Gerrardstown, West Verginia. The band plans to do six presentations for individual classes taught by school music teacher, Mason Atha.
Terry Baucom Bluegrass Education Grants ($500 each)
-Molly Johnson, age 18 (South Carolina) will attend the Bela Fleck Blue Ridge Banjo Camp
-Isaac McCarthy, age 21 (West Virginia) will attend the Bela Fleck Blue Ridge Banjo Camp, Augusta –Heritage workshops, or Allegheny Echoes.
-Malachi Miller, age 18 (Nebraska) will attend the Bela Fleck Blue Ridge Banjo Camp
-Wyatt Tennant, age 17 (Michigan) will attend the Midwest Banjo Camp.
-Joshual Wills, 15 (Oklahoma) will attend the Live Oak Fiddle Camp.
Fletcher Bright Memorial Grant for Young Musicians (age 21 and younger), $500 each
-Hollace Oakes, age 14 (Virginia) will attend the East Tennessee State University Bluegrass Summer Camp.
-Izaak Schwartz, age 14 (Pennsylvania) will attend The Ashokan Center Banjo Camp.
-Nora Jane Tennant, age 11 (Michigan) will take fiddle lessons at the Michigan Academy of Folk Music.
A kind reminder to donors: Budgeted funds for both of these educational grants have run out for the 2024-25 fiscal year ending June 30, 2025. If we receive additional donations for the Fletcher Bright Memorial Grant for Young Musicians and/or the Terry Baucom Bluegrass Education Grant, the IBMA Foundation will be able to fund additional deserving applications for camps and lessons this summer. We appreciate your support!
