Grant report from ETSU Bluegrass Camper, Hollace Oakes

Sep 3, 2025 | News

Hollace Oakes, age 14, received a Terry Baucom Bluegrass Education Grant from the IBMA Foundation last spring to attend the ETSU Bluegrass Camp in July.

“I had an amazing time at the ETSU bluegrass camp!” Hollace said. “Aynsley [Porchak] was an amazing fiddle teacher, and I learned a bunch of new Bobby Hicks licks from her. My favorite class was Advanced Improv. with Trey Hensley. I also enjoyed the songwriting class with Tim Stafford. This camp allowed me to meet new friends and be taught by world-class instructors. Thank you so much for the grant that helped me attend!”

Here’s a camp video Hollace put together, with audio from a jam session in a stairwell: https://youtu.be/cup033jcck8.
