The IBMA Foundation e-mailbox has been full during the past two months with reports from across the country and around the world.
Scotland–
The first time John Sheldon of the British Bluegrass Music Association heard bluegrass music was when a band came to his music class at school in 1967. “Since 1987 I’ve been organizing a bluegrass festival, organizing tours for bands, and raising funds for school presentation—all stemming from witnessing a Bluegrass in the Schools presentation as a youngster!” he said. It was another “full circle” moment for John when an IBMA Foundation BGIS Mini-grant and the Bill Breen Bluegrass Youth Education Grant supported a September 26 presentation by the Goldrush Bluegrass Band at Biggar Primary School in South Lanarkshire, Scotland, for 212 students age 6-13 and their teachers. Head Teacher Heather Graham wrote, “I am just sending you a wee note to say a great big thank you to Bluegrass in the Schools for coming along to Biggar Primary last Friday. By all accounts from the staff and pupils, it was great.”
