Project grant from Chicot Elementary, Little Rock, AR

Nov 4, 2025 | News

The IBMA Foundation e-mailbox has been full in the past two months with reports from across the country and around the world.

Arkansas—
The Chicot Chetah Stringband in Little Rock, Arkansas, under the direction of Aaron Farris was a recipient of an Arnold Shultz Grant from the IBMA Foundation in 2025. The grant was used by Chicot Elementary School to start what they believe to be the only all-Black Stringband in the state of Arkansas. The student group will be opening for Dom Flemons at the Arkansas Stringband Festival in November.
