The Bluegrass Battles Hunger event in St. Joseph, Missouri was a huge success!
We were fortunate to engage Ellie Grace for the vocal harmony workshop, made possible by the funds received from the IBMA Foundation for our Artist in Residency program. The workshop was offered free of charge and was open to the public. My family and I, including my husband and our five-year-old, attended, and it was truly a delightful experience.
Ellie Grace proved to be a patient and thoughtful teacher, making the learning process thoroughly enjoyable. Holding the attention of a five-year-old for an entire hour is no small feat, and Ellie managed it with ease. By the end of the workshop, participants had not only learned the melody but also two harmony parts for “Sail Away, Ladies,” a traditional bluegrass song. The event culminated in a group sing-along, bringing together all three parts of the song.
The workshop was an enriching experience for all attendees, and Ellie Grace’s contribution added significantly to the overall success of the 2022 Bluegrass Battles Hunger music festival. Below, you’ll find a couple of pictures and a short video capturing the essence of the workshop.
Sincerely,
Jen Gewin, President and chair of the board of directors,
