The IBMA Foundation’s 4th annual Strings for Dreams Bluegrass Raffle will kick off April 1, 2024. The prize is a 2011 Golden Era Deering banjo with a hardshell case and other accessories, valued at $4,000. Longtime IBMA Foundation supporter Casey Henry donated the banjo. Previously owned by Casey’s student Betty Fisher, the instrument is in very good condition and has a powerful tone.
Tickets will be offered at $20 for one or $100 for six tickets. There is no limit to the number of chances each person may purchase. Raffle tickets are available at this link from April 1, 2024 (9 a.m. ET) to May 12, 2024 (11:59 p.m., Eastern Daylight Time.)
A maple, pre-war style bluegrass banjo made like the classic banjos of the 1930s with the same materials and the same weight, design, and features, the Golden Era is one of Deering’s most popular banjos for traditional bluegrass bands. Adorned with a hearts and flowers inlay pattern, this beautiful banjo has a genuine Deering 06-20-hole bell bronze tone ring. The drum assembly and neck shape are designed for crisp and strong bass notes as well as the distinct clear high tones of the cherished classic bluegrass sound.
Remember:
The more tickets you purchase, the better chance you have of winning. Your ticket purchases support the work of the IBMA Foundation year-round. That work includes project grants for bluegrass camps and afterschool programs for kids; bluegrass academies at festivals; bluegrass academic conferences; mini-grants for bands to present educational bluegrass programs at schools; five college scholarships for students focusing on bluegrass-related majors, broadcast media, sound engineering, songwriting, or other studies; the Neil Rosenberg Bluegrass Scholar Award; the annual Bluegrass College Band Showcase at World of Bluegrass; Arnold Shultz Fund grants to encourage participation in bluegrass music by people of color; and a variety of educational resources for educators and students of all ages, including Discover Bluegrass: Exploring American Roots Music for children and educational videos in the Bluegrass Stagecraft 101 and Emcee Masterclass series. If you prefer not to enter the raffle, you can make a donation to the IBMA Foundation.
Ticket purchasers will receive an emailed receipt with ticket information for verification purposes. Purchasers must be living U.S. residents, 18 years of age or older, to participate and win. If fundraising raffles are illegal in your community, you will be unable to participate. (States that prohibit raffles altogether are Alabama, Arkansas, Hawaii, and Utah). Members of the IBMA Foundation board or those involved in conducting the raffle—including staff members or immediate family members of these individuals—are not allowed to purchase a raffle ticket. “Immediate family” is defined as spouse or partner, children, parents, siblings, grandparents, grandchildren, in-laws, or spouses of your children.
Although all proceeds will benefit the IBMA Foundation, purchase of raffle tickets is not a tax-deductible expense (IRS regulation). The drawing will take place in North Carolina and will be live-streamed on the IBMA Foundation Facebook page at noon Eastern Time on April 13, 2024. This raffle has been organized in compliance with North Carolina General Statutes 14-309.15—Raffles. The giveaway is conducted by and benefits the IBMA Foundation.
