Spring is just around the corner, and it’s the time of year for those who plant gardens to start leafing through seed catalogs. For those who play bluegrass instruments (or would like to), it’s time to check out the list of bluegrass camps and workshops available this summer. (Actually, some run in various locations year-round.)
Camps and workshops are a great break from one-on-one lessons or woodshedding alone. They are also a great way to learn from talented musicians and teachers, while making new friends who love bluegrass music as much as you do!
You may not be aware of a free listing of bluegrass camps on the IBMA Foundation website at this link. If you have a bluegrass camp or workshop for youth or students of any age, please email the info to info@bluegrassfoundation.org, and we will be happy to include your event.
If you are interested in helping young musicians go to bluegrass camp or take lessons, please consider a donation to the Fletcher Bright Memorial Grant for Young Musicians. Demand typically exceeds available funds for these grant four months before the end of the fiscal year, so your support would be greatly appreciated! You’re welcome to mail a donation marked FLETCHER BRIGHT to IBMA Foundation, 1183 University Drive #105-215, Burlington, NC 27215, or you can make a donation through PayPal at our website, https://bluegrassfoundation.org. Thank you!
Those of us lucky enough to have had someone show us a few chords and teach us some tunes when we were young know the value of this kind of help. It’s all a part of planting seeds and working together to create a brighter future for bluegrass.
